Why this matters

You scaled past the systems your business was built on.

At 5 to 12 people, the founder runs everything by personal attention. At 50, that stops working. The transition is rarely planned. It happens in months 9 through 18, and most founders only notice when their own week becomes the bottleneck.

  • The onboarding lives in your head

Every new hire takes more than three months to be productive because the onboarding lives in your head.

  • The handoffs aren't written down

Your team is good. They miss things anyway because the handoffs aren't written down.

  • You are the single point of failure

You took a vacation last year. Things broke. You're not taking another one until something changes.

The deliverable

Operations Audit Summary

  • 45-minute working session
  • Written summary in 2 business days
  • Yours to keep · $0

What you get

A 45-minute working session and a written summary.

  • Three named operational bottlenecks

Ranked by revenue impact. We name each in plain language, not consultant abstractions.

  • A one-page fix plan for each bottleneck

What to change, who owns the change, and when to verify it worked. Each plan is short enough to print.

  • An honest cost-of-doing-nothing estimate

Not a sales tool — a real estimate of what each bottleneck costs your business annually. We show our math.

  • The three things we won't pretend to fix in 45 minutes

We tell you what's outside the audit's scope so you can plan for it separately.

  • A written summary within 2 business days

Markdown, PDF, or Google Doc — your preference. You own the document. We do not retain a copy.

Proof

Three audits, three industries.

  • Agency

A 28-person digital agency in Toronto

Bottleneck: Client onboarding ran 6+ weeks.

Fix: A 12-step onboarding plan owned by the operations lead, not the founder.

Outcome: Founder reclaimed 7 hours per onboarding.

    — Sample case bullet · replace with verified client data before launch

  • Accounting

A 14-person accounting firm in Austin

Bottleneck: Month-end close took 9 business days.

Fix: A RACI matrix for the close + tooling change.

Outcome: Close went to 4 business days within one quarter.

    — Sample case bullet · replace with verified client data before launch

  • Trade Contractor

A 41-person electrical contractor in Phoenix

Bottleneck: Estimate-to-invoice took 3 weeks on average.

Fix: Project-handoff template + scheduled finance sync.

Outcome: Cycle dropped to 6 business days.

Our promise

If the audit doesn't surface anything actionable, we'll write you a referral.

We expect to find three bottlenecks. If we genuinely don't — your operations are already in good shape, or your situation is outside our experience — we'll write you a one-paragraph referral to a better-fit consultant. You won't be invoiced. We don't follow up.

Common questions before you book.

Nothing. The audit is free. We do not invoice for the audit. We will not invoice for follow-up unless you explicitly engage us, which is rare and not the goal.

No. We don't sell retainers. We do project work occasionally when a client asks, but the audit is not a sales call. We don't follow up unless you reply to the summary.

We've been doing this since 2018. The first 45 minutes is where the biggest bottlenecks surface — they're rarely subtle. The depth comes later if you decide to go deeper. The audit is the surface scan.

Below 5 people, the audit's scope doesn't apply — you don't have systems to audit yet, you have a founder doing everything. Above 50, the bottlenecks are usually political, not operational, and our methodology doesn't translate. We'll redirect you in either case.

Only if you ask. By default we take notes and email the summary. The notes are deleted after we send the summary. We do not retain audit content.

This isn't a fit — and that's a real answer.

Northbeam audits the 5–50 person band. Below 5, you don't have systems to audit yet — you have a founder doing everything. Above 50, the bottlenecks are usually political, not operational, and our methodology doesn't translate.

Email hello@northbeam.example with one sentence about your situation and we'll send you a short referral list. No invoice, no list, no follow-up.

One sentence is fine — e.g. 'every new hire takes 3 months to be productive'
